The PRV is a safety device designed to alleviate pressure build up within the heating system. Heating and cooling of water inside of a sealed system generates pressure fluctuations that may reach unsafe levels. A PRV has a tap and a fixed pressure allowance that when reached unlocks the tap to allow water to escape.
