Electrodes tend to come in two main types: The Flame Monitoring Electrode (also known as the Flame Sensing Electrode) and the Spark Electrode (also known as the Ignition Electrode). When there is a need to activate the boiler, the PCB relays commands to the Spark Electrode which then uses a spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. A Flame Sensing Electrode, on the other hand, ensures that a flame is present inside the burner. This important safety feature stop gas from being supplied if the flame goes out.
