Electrodes tend to come in two main types: The Ignition Electrode (sometimes known as the Spark Electrode) and the Flame sensing Electrode. A Spark Electrode utilises a spark to ignite the fuel inside the burner and begin the combustion process. A Flame Sensing Electrode, on the other hand, makes sure that the flame started by the spark electrode is still present inside the burner. This feature is critical as it stop gas from being supplied if the flame has been extinguished.
