In most boilers, there are two types of Electrodes : The Flame Monitoring Electrode (also known as the Flame Sensing Electrode) and the Spark Electrode (also known as the Ignition Electrode). A Spark Electrode utilises an electronically generated spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. The Flame Sensing Electrode ensures that a flame is present inside the burner. This important safety feature stop gas from being supplied if the flame has been extinguished.
