In most boilers, there are two types of Electrodes : The Ignition Electrode (sometimes known as the Spark Electrode) and the Flame sensing Electrode. A Spark Electrode uses a spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. A Flame Sensing Electrode, on the other hand, checks that a flame is present within the combustion chamber. This feature is critical as it stop gas from being supplied if the flame has been extinguished.
