Electrodes tend to come in two main types: The Flame Sensing Electrode and the Spark Electrode. When there is a need to activate the boiler, the PCB relays commands to the Spark Electrode which then utilises a spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. The flame is then monitored by the Flame Sensing Electrode which ensures that a flame is present inside the burner. This important safety feature stop gas from being supplied if the flame goes out.
