In most boilers, there are two types of Electrodes : The Ignition Electrode (sometimes known as the Spark Electrode) and the Flame sensing Electrode. The Spark Electrode produces an electronically generated spark to ignite the fuel inside the burner and begin the combustion process. A Flame Sensing Electrode, on the other hand, makes sure that the flame started by the spark electrode is still present within the combustion chamber. This feature is critical as it stop gas from being supplied if the flame goes out.
