Electrodes tend to come in two main types: The Ignition Electrode (sometimes known as the Spark Electrode) and the Flame sensing Electrode. The Spark Electrode utilises an electronically generated spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. The Flame Sensing Electrode makes sure that a flame is present inside the burner. This feature is critical as it stop gas from being supplied if the flame has been extinguished.
