You will find 2 main types of Electrodes within most boilers 1) The Spark Electrode and 2) the Flame Sensing Electrode. When there is a need to activate the boiler, the PCB relays commands to the Spark Electrode which then produces a spark to ignite the fuel inside the burner and begin the combustion process. The flame is then monitored by the Flame Sensing Electrode which ensures that a flame is present within the combustion chamber. This important safety feature stop gas from being supplied if the flame goes out.
