There are 2 main types of electrodes that are found in most boilers: The Ignition Electrode (sometimes known as the Spark Electrode) and the Flame sensing Electrode. The Spark Electrode utilises an electronically generated spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. The Flame Sensing Electrode checks that a flame is present inside the burner. This important safety feature stop gas from being supplied if the flame has been extinguished.
