In most boilers, there are two types of Electrodes : 1) The Spark Electrode and 2) the Flame Sensing Electrode. When there is a need to activate the boiler, the PCB relays commands to the Spark Electrode which then produces a spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. The Flame Sensing Electrode makes sure that a flame is present within the combustion chamber. This important safety feature stop gas from being supplied if the flame has been extinguished.
