The AAV allows the release of air pockets that are present within a closed water system, ensuring that the system doesn't display behaviours such as strange noises and increased corrosion. The Automatic Air Vent, as the name suggests, performs its job automatically, without any need for orders from the PCB. A float within the AAV matches the water level within the system and allows air to be vented. When the water level is high, the air discharge hole is blocked by the float, if the water level is low, air can escape as the discharge hole is no longer blocked.
