In most boilers, there are two types of Electrodes : The Flame Sensing Electrode and the Spark Electrode. A Spark Electrode utilises an electronically generated spark to ignite the fuel inside the burner and begin the combustion process. The Flame Sensing Electrode checks that a flame is present inside the burner. This important safety feature stop gas from being supplied if the flame goes out.
