There are 2 main types of electrodes that are found in most boilers: The Flame Monitoring Electrode (also known as the Flame Sensing Electrode) and the Spark Electrode (also known as the Ignition Electrode). The Spark Electrode uses an electronically generated spark to ignite the fuel inside the burner and begin the combustion process. A Flame Sensing Electrode, on the other hand, ensures that the flame started by the spark electrode is still present inside the burner. This important safety feature stop gas from being supplied if the flame has been extinguished.
