There are 2 main types of electrodes that are found in most boilers: The Flame Sensing Electrode and the Spark Electrode. When there is a need to activate the boiler, the PCB relays commands to the Spark Electrode which then uses a spark to ignite the fuel inside the burner and begin the combustion process. The flame is then monitored by the Flame Sensing Electrode which ensures that a flame is present within the combustion chamber. This important safety feature prevents gas from flooding the burner if the flame has been extinguished.
