Potterton 10/20370 Thermocouple

A thermocouple is a safety mechanism that stops unburnt gas from building up within the boiler when there is no flame detected. One end is positioned within or just above the pilot flame, the opposite end is fitted to a volt sensor that governs the gas valve. When the pilot end encounters a flame the valve receives a small current, notifying it to stay open. When no signal is sent, the valve stays closed.
