The Heat Exchanger is responsible for the transfer of heat from the combustion chamber to the water within a system. Inside a boiler, you usually find 2 main types of heat exchanger: A primary heat exchanger and a secondary heat exchanger (also known as a domestic hot water heat exchanger or a plate heat exchanger). Almost all boilers have a primary heat exchanger which allows generated heat to be passed in to the water system. The secondary heat exchanger, however, can only be found in combination boilers and enacts heat transfers between closed systems.
