You will find 2 main types of Electrodes within most boilers The Flame Sensing Electrode and the Spark Electrode. When there is a need to activate the boiler, the PCB relays commands to the Spark Electrode which then uses an electronically generated spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. The flame is then monitored by the Flame Sensing Electrode which makes sure that a flame is present within the combustion chamber. This feature is critical as it prevents gas from flooding the burner if the flame has been extinguished.
