There are 2 main types of electrodes that are found in most boilers: The Flame Sensing Electrode and the Spark Electrode. A Spark Electrode uses an electronically generated spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. The flame is then monitored by the Flame Sensing Electrode which ensures that a flame is present within the combustion chamber. This important safety feature stop gas from being supplied if the flame has been extinguished.
