You will find 2 main types of Electrodes within most boilers The Ignition Electrode (sometimes known as the Spark Electrode) and the Flame sensing Electrode. When there is a need to activate the boiler, the PCB relays commands to the Spark Electrode which then uses a spark to ignite the fuel inside the burner and begin the combustion process. The flame is then monitored by the Flame Sensing Electrode which ensures that the flame started by the spark electrode is still present inside the burner. This feature is critical as it stop gas from being supplied if the flame has been extinguished.
