In most boilers, there are two types of Electrodes : The Ignition Electrode (sometimes known as the Spark Electrode) and the Flame sensing Electrode. The Spark Electrode utilises a spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. A Flame Sensing Electrode, on the other hand, checks that the flame started by the spark electrode is still present within the combustion chamber. This feature is critical as it stop gas from being supplied if the flame goes out.
