There are 2 main types of electrodes that are found in most boilers: The Ignition Electrode (sometimes known as the Spark Electrode) and the Flame sensing Electrode. The Spark Electrode uses a spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. The Flame Sensing Electrode ensures that the flame started by the spark electrode is still present inside the burner. This important safety feature stop gas from being supplied if the flame goes out.
