Electrodes tend to come in two main types: 1) The Spark Electrode and 2) the Flame Sensing Electrode. A Spark Electrode produces a spark to ignite the fuel inside the burner and begin the combustion process. The Flame Sensing Electrode makes sure that the flame started by the spark electrode is still present within the combustion chamber. This feature is critical as it prevents gas from flooding the burner if the flame goes out.
