There are 2 main types of electrodes that are found in most boilers: The Flame Sensing Electrode and the Spark Electrode. When there is a need to activate the boiler, the PCB relays commands to the Spark Electrode which then produces a spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. A Flame Sensing Electrode, on the other hand, makes sure that the flame started by the spark electrode is still present within the combustion chamber. This important safety feature prevents gas from flooding the burner if the flame has been extinguished.
