This part is located within the expansion vessel section of the appliance. Expansion vessels commonly consist of two internal compartments, divided by a rubber sheet known as diaphragm. In a pressurised system of air and water, shifts in temperature can increase and decrease the pressure. The expansion vessel provides additional space that can be used when the water expands, this minimises the risk of potentially dangerous pressure levels inside the system.
