There are 2 main types of electrodes that are found in most boilers: The Ignition Electrode (sometimes known as the Spark Electrode) and the Flame sensing Electrode. A Spark Electrode uses an electronically generated spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. The Flame Sensing Electrode checks that a flame is present inside the burner. This important safety feature stop gas from being supplied if the flame has been extinguished.
