The Heat Exchanger ensures that heat is transferred from the combustion chamber to the water within a system. Depending on the type of appliance in question, there are two different types of heat exchanger: The domestic heat exchanger and the main heat exchanger. Almost all boilers have a primary heat exchanger which allows generated heat to be passed in to the water system. Alternatively, the plate heat exchanger is only present in combi boilers and is responsible for heat transference between two independent closed systems.
