In most boilers, there are two types of Electrodes : The Flame Monitoring Electrode (also known as the Flame Sensing Electrode) and the Spark Electrode (also known as the Ignition Electrode). A Spark Electrode produces a spark to ignite the fuel inside the burner and begin the combustion process. The Flame Sensing Electrode ensures that the flame started by the spark electrode is still present inside the burner. This feature is critical as it stop gas from being supplied if the flame goes out.
