There are 2 main types of electrodes that are found in most boilers: 1) The Spark Electrode and 2) the Flame Sensing Electrode. The Spark Electrode produces a spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. The flame is then monitored by the Flame Sensing Electrode which checks that a flame is present within the combustion chamber. This important safety feature prevents gas from flooding the burner if the flame goes out.
