There are 2 main types of electrodes that are found in most boilers: The Flame Sensing Electrode and the Spark Electrode. When there is a need to activate the boiler, the PCB relays commands to the Spark Electrode which then utilises an electronically generated spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. The Flame Sensing Electrode ensures that the flame started by the spark electrode is still present within the combustion chamber. This feature is critical as it prevents gas from flooding the burner if the flame goes out.
