In most boilers, there are two types of Electrodes : The Ignition Electrode (sometimes known as the Spark Electrode) and the Flame sensing Electrode. The Spark Electrode uses an electronically generated spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. The Flame Sensing Electrode makes sure that the flame started by the spark electrode is still present within the combustion chamber. This feature is critical as it stop gas from being supplied if the flame goes out.
