The Spark Electrode produces an electronically generated spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. The Flame Sensing Electrode ensures that the flame started by the spark electrode is still present within the combustion chamber. This important safety feature prevents gas from flooding the burner if the flame goes out.
