The AAV allows the release of air pockets from within a central heating system, ensuring that this system does not become airlocked. The Automatic Air Vent, as the name suggests, performs its job automatically, without any need for orders from the PCB. A float within the AAV matches the water level within the system and provides an ideal way to release air whilst preventing the escape of water. When the water level is high, the air discharge hole is blocked by the float, when the level of the water is low, air can escape as the discharge hole is no longer blocked.
