Electrodes tend to come in two main types: 1) The Spark Electrode and 2) the Flame Sensing Electrode. The Spark Electrode produces an electronically generated spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. The Flame Sensing Electrode ensures that the flame started by the spark electrode is still present inside the burner. This important safety feature prevents gas from flooding the burner if the flame has been extinguished.
