Electrodes tend to come in two main types: The Flame Sensing Electrode and the Spark Electrode. When there is a need to activate the boiler, the PCB relays commands to the Spark Electrode which then utilises an electronically generated spark to ignite the fuel inside the burner and begin the combustion process. A Flame Sensing Electrode, on the other hand, makes sure that a flame is present within the combustion chamber. This feature is critical as it prevents gas from flooding the burner if the flame goes out.
