There are 2 main types of electrodes that are found in most boilers: The Flame Monitoring Electrode (also known as the Flame Sensing Electrode) and the Spark Electrode (also known as the Ignition Electrode). The Spark Electrode produces a spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. The flame is then monitored by the Flame Sensing Electrode which makes sure that the flame started by the spark electrode is still present within the combustion chamber. This important safety feature stop gas from being supplied if the flame goes out.
