Inside a boiler, you usually find 2 main types of heat exchanger: The main heat exchanger and the plate heat exchanger. Almost all boilers have a primary heat exchanger which allows generated heat to be passed in to the water system. The secondary heat exchanger, however, is present alongside the primary heat exchanger in combination boilers and is responsible for the transfer of heat between closed systems.
