Electrodes tend to come in two main types: The Flame Monitoring Electrode (also known as the Flame Sensing Electrode) and the Spark Electrode (also known as the Ignition Electrode). The Spark Electrode uses a spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. A Flame Sensing Electrode, on the other hand, ensures that a flame is present within the combustion chamber. This feature is critical as it prevents gas from flooding the burner if the flame goes out.
