You will find 2 main types of Electrodes within most boilers The Flame Sensing Electrode and the Spark Electrode. When there is a need to activate the boiler, the PCB relays commands to the Spark Electrode which then produces a spark to ignite the fuel inside the burner and begin the combustion process. The flame is then monitored by the Flame Sensing Electrode which makes sure that a flame is present inside the burner. This feature is critical as it stop gas from being supplied if the flame goes out.
