Electrodes tend to come in two main types: The Ignition Electrode (sometimes known as the Spark Electrode) and the Flame sensing Electrode. The Spark Electrode uses a spark to ignite the fuel inside the burner and begin the combustion process. The flame is then monitored by the Flame Sensing Electrode which ensures that a flame is present within the combustion chamber. This feature is critical as it stop gas from being supplied if the flame has been extinguished.
