Electrodes tend to come in two main types: The Ignition Electrode (sometimes known as the Spark Electrode) and the Flame sensing Electrode. A Spark Electrode produces a spark to ignite the gases within the combustion chamber. The Flame Sensing Electrode makes sure that a flame is present inside the burner. This important safety feature prevents gas from flooding the burner if the flame goes out.
